I grew up watching my East African born Indian grandparents’ flit across the world, from Tanzania to Europe, USA and the Far East, social butterflies of their time they represented a great duality of both glamour and giving.
My gtandfather, an old school stickler for excellence, could still be found at 89 suited and booted, not a hair out of place, not a crease in sight, swinging his 30-year-old briefcase and ready to take on the world. A profound individual, each step in his life derived from an intrinsic desire to expand and improve upon the welfare and communities of others. Recognised for his philanthropy and contribution to society with a knighthood in 2003, the unwavering sense of duty he exemplified toward the world at large lay the groundworkfor my own sense of responsibility and values.
